Avoiding the Antwerp ring road
Shortsea coasters bring about 75,000 steel rolls from Finland to Terneuzen. From that location they’re loaded onto coasters that then carry the cargo to Genk. Genk is the hub where steel rolls are further distributed via rail to Italy, Spain, Germany, etc.
Because the steel rolls are shipped immediately, the shipper can optimize activities on the docks and in the warehouse. If there is any urgency, the truck can still be loaded directly in Terneuzen. In this way, the Antwerp ring road and the E313/E314 are avoided.
